Consent in intimate relationships is front and center in the today's conversations. In this study, how Shakespeare's female protagonists and supporting characters respond verbally and physically in Shakespeare's comedies and sources from which he derived his plays in and around Mediterranean call for a re-examination of women's roles in Early Modern and contemporary cultures. This re-examination of the words that women say or do not say, and actions that women do or do not take, in Shakespeare's Mediterranean plays and his probable sources shed light on how Shakespeare's audiences might have perceived the Mediterranean cultural mores and norms. Assessment of source materials for Shakespeare's comedies set in the Balkans, France, Italy, the Near East, North Africa, and Spain suggests how women of diverse backgrounds communicated in everyday life and peak life experiences in the Early Modern era. Given Shakespeare's impact worldwide, this initiative to shift the conversation about the power of consent of female protagonists and supporting characters in Shakespeare's Mediterranean plays will further transform conversations about consent in class, board and conference rooms, and the international stage"--</mods:abstract><mods:note type="statement of responsibility">Artemis Preeshl</mods:note><mods:note>Includes bibliographical references and index</mods:note><mods:subject><mods:topic>Literary criticism</mods:topic><mods:topic>DRAMAShakespeare</mods:topic><mods:topic>LITERARY CRITICISMShakespeare</mods:topic></mods:subject><mods:identifier type="eki">KXP1762260255</mods:identifier><mods:identifier type="isbn" displayLabel="ISBN 13">978-0-367-64434-5</mods:identifier><mods:identifier type="isbn" displayLabel="ISBN 13">978-0-367-64435-2</mods:identifier><mods:identifier type="ncidn">HT021023786</mods:identifier><mods:relatedItem type="series"><mods:titleInfo><mods:title>Studies in performance and early modern drama</mods:title></mods:titleInfo></mods:relatedItem><mods:relatedItem type="otherFormat" displayLabel="Erscheint auch als"><mods:note>Online-Ausgabe, eBook</mods:note><mods:identifier type="isbn">978-1-00312-451-1</mods:identifier></mods:relatedItem><mods:location><mods:physicalLocation authority="local library code">5/4</mods:physicalLocation><mods:holdingSimple><mods:copyInformation><mods:subLocation>00062000</mods:subLocation><mods:shelfLocator>HI 3385 P923</mods:shelfLocator></mods:copyInformation></mods:holdingSimple></mods:location><mods:location><mods:physicalLocation authority="local library code">361</mods:physicalLocation><mods:holdingSimple><mods:copyInformation><mods:subLocation>154_M</mods:subLocation><mods:shelfLocator>WE798 P923</mods:shelfLocator></mods:copyInformation></mods:holdingSimple></mods:location><mods:location><mods:physicalLocation authority="local library code">466</mods:physicalLocation><mods:holdingSimple><mods:copyInformation><mods:subLocation>11</mods:subLocation><mods:shelfLocator>DYB1595</mods:shelfLocator></mods:copyInformation></mods:holdingSimple></mods:location><mods:extension><vlz:info xmlns:vlz="http://visuallibrary.net/vlz/1.0/" version="2"/></mods:extension><mods:recordInfo><mods:recordCreationDate encoding="marc">20210817</mods:recordCreationDate><mods:recordChangeDate encoding="marc">20211215</mods:recordChangeDate><mods:recordIdentifier source="ubpbce">DYB1595</mods:recordIdentifier><mods:descriptionStandard>rda</mods:descriptionStandard></mods:recordInfo></mods:mods></mets:xmlData></mets:mdWrap></mets:dmdSec><mets:amdSec ID="amd1134396"><mets:rightsMD ID="rights1134396">
